Quebec Record of Death
1911
Born in Quebec in 1842
Married first in 1861
Second in 1874
When did she die?
The facts as presented:
Facts about a woman - a 10th Generation Mayflower descendant, had been gathered from a number of sources. She was born in the area around Napierville, Quebec in 1842. She was married twice - first in 1861, and second in 1874. It had been reported on a number of online family tree sites that she had died in the area around Lacolle, Quebec, in April of 1911.
The challenge:
Can I find a formal death certificate for this woman? What about 1881 Census of Canada details - could they be found for her as well?
The results:
Diligent investigation revealed that the woman had in fact died in January of 1938. Clearly, the family tree sites which reported a 1911 death were conjectural and were based solely on somebody's last find of details about her in 1911 Census of Canada schedules.
A copy of the parish burial register entry pertaining to this woman was obtained, and relayed to my client. Also sent to my client were digital copies of the woman's details from both 1881 and 1921 Census of Canada schedules.
Whether a formal death certificate could be obtained for this woman would depend on whether my client would be deemed to be a person who would be eligible to receive such a document, or not. The online portal for requesting such a certificate can be found through this link.
The response:
" Bruce, you are great!"
