The Shocking Demise

of

Young John Kirkpatrick

1858

Died in Eaglesham, Scotland,

John KIRKPATRICK was the son of Joseph & Elizabeth [nee GREER] Kirkpatrick. In the spring of 1858, Joseph was employed as a ‘cotton spinner’ at the large cotton spinning factory located in the village of Eaglesham, in Renfrewshire, Scotland. Both Joseph and Elizabeth had been born in Ireland. The specific place of Joseph’s birth is not presently known, but was most likely somewhere within the boundaries of the Province of Ulster in what is now Northern Ireland. Elizabeth Greer was reputedly born in County Tyrone.

John’s older siblings are all known to have been born in Ireland, and a younger brother – James, was also born there in about 1854. John himself had undoubtedly been born in Ireland, as well. When he died suddenly on the 10th of April, 1858, he was 7 years old.
